New Traditions For Your Company Holiday Party
Try Something New at Your Annual Holiday Party
Has your company’s annual holiday party been pretty stale over the past few years? If this is the case, you should look into adding some new traditions to make the party more interesting. Throwing a unique and entertaining holiday party is a good way to help boost morale at the office. We host some corporate holiday parties at our sister venue, Windows on the Water, and have seen some interesting takes on them. Below are a few of our favorites
Organize a Murder Mystery Party
The murder mystery party is a trend that has been popular for decades. During these dinner theater events, one person will be designated as the “murderer,” and everyone else at the event has to work together figure out who the murderer is. These can be done at any time of the year, but they are pretty popular during the holiday season.
You can set up your own murder mystery party, or you can schedule one at one of the many locations that host them.
Spice Up the Menu with International Food
This is one of the perks of having an executive chef at your holiday party. Consider bringing in some international food to spice up the menu. You could bring in some Mexican or Italian cuisines, or maybe you could bring some Nordic influence to your menu.
Try setting up different food stations for each country, and decorate each station to theme it around each of the countries you want to represent. You can also play holiday music from these different countries to add to the international theme.
Have a Gag Gift Exchange
People enjoying having a good laugh, and a good way to get people to laugh during the holidays is to get them gag gifts. Even if these gifts don’t have a lot of practical value, they can get people laughing from just how absurd some of them can be. These gifts tend to be pretty cheap too, so everyone can have a good laugh for a small amount of money.
To make things more interesting, you can have the party organizer buy a collection of gifts, some good and some bad. You can wrap the gifts, pile them together, and have each employee take a single gift. Everyone should have a good laugh as people start opening the joke gifts. Gag gifts are a goofy way to liven up the party scene without going over budget.
Set Up a Photo Booth
A simple way to have fun at a holiday party is to get a photo booth. Many places rent photo booths that come with props that can help you create festive photos. If you don’t have the money for a photo booth, you can make your own by bringing your own camera and creating a festive backdrop by hand.
Have some fun at the party, and take some goofy photos that you will remember forever. The photos you take will serve as great mementos that you can look back on in the future. As the old saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”
Hold a Cookie Swap
Holding a cookie swap is another fun thing you can do at the holiday party. Employees can bake their own cookies at home and share them with everyone else at the office. Anyone who does not feel comfortable baking cookies can go out and buy cookies to bring in. That way, everyone has something to bring in, even if some employees aren’t the best bakers.
Anyone who bakes their own cookies can share recipes with everyone else at the office, so everyone has a chance to make the cookies at home. Depending on how good the cookies are, those recipes could serve as gifts all on their own.
